Controlling Dice on the Craps Table

Good day, as I start visiting land based casinos, I have found some have craps tables. I had not explored this game in the past, but it interests me now. Mainly, because I see that a small percentage of players are skilled enough in the dice throwing to boost their winning a little. I am currently trying to see if I can throw the dice that well.

[it is interesting to note, that controlling the dice (even slightly) is something you cannot do with an RNG game online]

So, my question is ... have any of you had any success at controlling dice when rolling? If so, do you have any tips or suggestions? If not, any major warnings to stay away from the game? Thanks in advance.

Did you have some nice wins until now?

Nice wins? Actually, I have not played it yet. I saw the tables, but they were not open at the time I was there.

Furthermore, I wanted to learn the rules and odds, the different types of bets, and even different betting styles that others have used ... as well as practice dice rolling ... all before I go into a real game with real money.

If I do not go out of my way, it will probably be another month before I go that far west again ... plenty of time for practice.

The odd thing about watching it online, is it becomes a spectator sport with other people betting on your rolls (and you betting on other peoples rolls) - apparently, there is a skill to judging how others roll and deciding how you will bet.

I've never heard any tactics on how someone throws dice. Quite a few people play it, and I don't know if I've even met anyone who's asked about this table game. But if there is some skill in it, then I admire anyone who can roll it the way they want to. I'd probably just watch and see how the others throw and, like you said, bet on them. 😀

Here is one article as an introduction on rolling dice in a controlled way. SPORTSGEEK There are many other articles and youtube videos for people who are interested. ... but simply put, a lot of it is practice, practice, practice.

Thank you. So I believe I would have to apply a lot of training to be a "professional". Do you think you will practice and become more advanced in this area? 😀

I watched an interview with a "professional craps player" ... he bought his own table to practice on, only plays on 12 foot tables (ten is also common), only plays with 20 millimeter dice (19 mm is also common), etc. That is incredibly specific training. No, I will not try that.

However, if I can form a consistent throw that simply rolls back without scattering sideways, that moves the odds in your favor a little bit (enough to have extra wins). I will try and see if I can do that ... and if so, probably will include the game in my repertoire when I go play.

Again, it is worth noting this is something (like counting cards) that cannot be done online. I am increasingly seeing advantages to playing in live casinos [the big downside being having to travel there].

Thanks for your contribution, I'm quite intrigued. I can see that some players are determined but I probably wouldn't be too excited about it either. So if you ever try it in a casino not online, feel free to give me a report on how it went for you. I'll just be glad to see your experience. 🙂

Well ... I finally went to the casino and played at a genuine craps table for the first time. I had previously bought a set of AAA grade casino style dice so I could try and develop a more consistent throw at home before going.

I managed to get to the table during a lull and was able to slowly try throwing and betting in a full casino environment. Then the table got crowded. Between different shooters my funds bounced up and down around what I paid in. Then suddenly the dice were given back to me.

On one hand, I somewhat panicked ... I did not like the thought of several people betting on my untested throwing skills. At the same time, many hundreds of practice throws made sure I knew the motions to make. This combination led me to use just a single pairing of the dice the entire time (14/45) - no tricks, no high risk shots ... just avoiding the seven.

Wow! I did not count but I am somewhat sure I had at least 20 throws [it includes three sets of a few to several throws that ended successfully and a fourth set with some throws that finally sevened out]. I actually had the crowd applauding me. I managed to complete the All-Low side bet. It looked like I knew what I was doing ... and we all made some money.

I know that one time at a table means nothing statistically ... but I do think dice setting makes a difference ... and for those who eventually have strong dice control, it would be even better. I enjoyed my start down this path and I think it will be useful in the future.

In that case, congratulations on your achievement. I like to hear when players have a good casino experience for a change. From what you write, you had your moment of glory. The important thing is that you got into it and you can try again next time, hopefully with same positive outcome.

Good luck. ☘️
