VPN? When to use one?

There are sites that will not let you use VPNs. Then again, I was told by a site to use a VPN so I could play at there site.

I tried playing a game and got a message stating, for me to use a VPN. What would happen if I hit big on that game and tried to cash out. Why would a site encourage me to around one of the apparent rules?

Any knowledge on this is appreciated.

Was it the whole website asking you to use the VPN, or just one specific game ?

If that's one legit casino the status of VPN use will be explicitly mentioned in their T&C also.

When I tried playing a game, I got a message stating the game was no allowed in my jurisdiction. I go to live chat and they said to use a VPN for that game.

If that's specific to a provider and the support team is on your side for this, it should be ok. Keep a screenshot of the chat just in case 😄

What's the casino by curiosity ?

Starbets is the Casino.

Explicitely written in their T&C that the VPN is not allowed so yeah, be careful with that. And again keep a screenshots of the person asking you to use one.

Wouldn't be the first time a casino agent is not fully aware of what he/she is talking about...

Hi, I noticed that Thebaum gave you some good advice on using a VPN.

I'm also of the opinion that I would take screenshots if the live chat says you can use a VPN for certain games. It wouldn't be the first time a casino would try to use the argument that VPNs are prohibited according to their Terms and Conditions, so unless it's explicitly stated that it's allowed, I'd definitely be careful whether I used it or not.

In this case, I would add the useful information that VPN is prohibited at Starbets Casino according to our system, so please be cautious.

If I may step in for a sec, this is, by all means, quite a common approach. Most casinos aim to offer the largest and most convenient list of games to every player they come across.

Sadly, it is also again a common thing to find some games restricted for your country. How to bypass that? By using VPN on purpose. It is different between using VPN occasionally to play a few games and using the VPN to bypass country restrictions applied to the whole casino. 🙂

There is another detail usually mentioned in the terms aside from "using the VPN is strictly forbidden and will result in account closure", sometimes - and not so rarely the whole game provider portfolio is restricted for certain countries.

So technically, by using the VPN you may possibly breach several terms at once!

That being said, always read the rules and ALWAYS make screenshots covering your backs - especially when the idea comes from the chat operator.

Good words.

I'd say that even if the casino operator made a mistake the theoretical winnings would still be due to pay to the player if the VPN usage would be considered the only "issue".

We all pay for our mistakes in some ways, casinos pay in money or bonuses 😀

Thank you to everyone for weighing in on this. I appreciate your knowledge on this subject.

If you start a live chat with this casino, the chat thread can be emailed to you and every sent message is time stamped and shows the name of the person who sent the message.

I just immediately left as soon as I got the message to use a VPN. I didn't have to read the TCs to know that they would have a stipulation about using a VPN. Seems every casino would.

Meta Spins is another casino that will give you a pop up message saying something like,..we detected you are in the United States, please use a VPN to play here.

As a rule, it seems all casinos would need to validate a player to ensure they are live player. Using a VPN can prohibit you from being validated. As a rule of thumb for me, I am always curious when I am instructed to forget about this casino rule or that casino ruel. Even with all the chat and screen shots I can take I don't trust playing at these places.

I agree, Thebaum gave me good advice. You have as well.

I would hope I would be paid as well but I do not believe they would pay. I think the customer service rep gets fired and I would be told the TCs were my responsibility to read and agree to. I feel it is best to stay away from these restricted sites.

Happy to help. But yes, just to be safe, better to never have to use a VPN on online casinos - and treat cautiously any words of the customer service 😅

Teamwork certainly paid off in this case. I think you're of the same opinion as the rest of us when it comes to using VPNs. You always have to be careful and take a good look at whether it can be used.

As far as advice goes, we're trying to help other players, so you're welcome.

I hope you won't have any problems with this situation in the future, and if you're interested in any other things besides VPNs, be sure to let us know.

I wanted to bring this up to warn other players. I am of the same opinion. I want other players to be aware of these mistakes without making them themselves.

This website is amazing; this community has helped me tremendously in the past.

In my opinion, you did the right thing. I think that such a topic is definitely useful on the forum and other players can get information from this thread that could help them.

Besides, it's great that you like it here and as you mentioned that the community helped you, you also help the community with your interesting posts. I hope that you will continue in this trend and we will help each other in other situations as well. 🙂 👍

Well, I can't answer the question about legality. Local laws and restrictions are most likely different across the world, yet what stays the same is the question of fairness.

Usually, the situation is different, let's take an example:

A player from Norway visits the casino to play Candy Crash Saga however, the game wouldn't start saying it is restricted. The sad player reaches out to the chat operator asking for a solution, he finds out the game is restricted to players from Norway. But, to keep the player satisfied, the operator suggests using a VPN set to Venezuela because, for Venezuela, Candy Crash Saga is accessible.

By choosing Germany, you will probably find lots of games restricted due to the local regulations, some game providers have left the market in the past.

As you now see, you are in the opposite situation. I would not say any of this is against the law, on the other hand, by suggesting using a VPN to pass the restriction, the casino risks its good relationship with the game provider. 🙂

It is important to say you should only use VPN in VPN-friendly casinos, if you are told to use VPN and set a different country, always take screenshots for later use. One never knows when you need to support your steps.

Did I answer your question, what do you say? 🙂

Wouldn't it still be risky to use VPN? They could be too technical, like they 'allow you to play using VPN' but they might not release the winnings because yo used VPN in claiming.

I say yes it is risky.

If the "terms and conditions"(T&C) of the casino say "no VPN" and the chat operator tells you to use one.... I am not playing at that casino. If you win at that casino using a VPN when the T & C says VPNs are not allowed, you would have a hard time collecting. That is my opinion.

If they want to keep the customer who needs a VPN to play a specific game, then make the T&C to allow the user to use the VPN. Why waste time and energy with the whole thing? There are too many other places to play at where this is not an issue.

It would also be helpful to discuss the VPN from the casino's point of view. Why do some allow and some do not? What are the advantages of not allowing VPN vs. allowing VPN for the casino?

I have seen restricted games at free sites. Sites where there is no $ exchanged. You are trying the game out to see if you like it. Why are they restricting any game in this scenario?
