Curacao Gaming Control Board

I recently ran into an issue with a casino that I do not believe is being transparent in their practices, I went to their licensors site and saw this,

https://www.gamingcontrolcuracao.org/regulation/online-gaming

"Complaints

The GCB has not yet started handling complaints as there is no formal procedure for that in place yet. The GCB currently aims to have a complaints policy in place as soon as the new legislation enters into force. When this is the case, we will announce it on this website.

We kindly point out in advance that the GCB will not investigate all complaints. For example, the GCB does not have the authority to adjudicate disputes between the complainant and the accused party and to settle claims or award damages.

Only if a complaint indicates a violation of the applicable regulations, this can be investigated further.

We suggest that at all times you seek legal advice for any claims you may have vis-à-vis the license holder or other party or parties.

Please note that all license holders and parties that operate under their responsibility should at all times comply with the law, including AML/ CFT regulations and the permit provisions and best practices that are applicable to them. Any violation of the law can at all times lead to administrative, criminal or civil measures."

So how can a casino be licensed under this regulator but the regulator doesn't even accept complaints?!

Hi, according to what I've read CGB should be disabled from 18.8. and apparently other licenses that belong to Curaco will slowly follow. Obviously until they resolve this situation and until it's probably not possible to complain about this sublicense at the moment. I would say that first there must be a reform, as is mentioned in the article you shared, and then they will probably address the complaints.

From what I understand it's NOT a sublicense.

Well, yes, I meant that Curacao includes Antillephone, Gaming Curacao and others, so in that sense.

But how did you get this information? Do you look at the gambling situation often?

Thanks for your insights. From what I understand, the GCB is relatively new to the online gaming licensing scene, especially when compared to other licensing bodies in Curaçao. With Gaming Curaçao recently shutting down, it seems that many casinos have switched to the GCB, likely due to its more lax licensing requirements.

This transition might explain why the GCB hasn’t fully developed its complaint-handling procedures yet, but it also raises concerns about the level of oversight and player protection currently in place. The fact that they don’t have a formal process for handling player complaints is troubling, as it leaves a significant gap in accountability.

I’ve been following these developments closely because of my own experiences, and it’s frustrating to see that players might be left without proper recourse during this transition period. I hope that as the GCB matures, it will implement stricter regulations and a more robust framework for handling complaints, but until then, the situation remains challenging for players like me.

I appreciate the discussion and will continue to keep an eye on these developments. It’s clear that the regulatory landscape in Curaçao is in flux, and I hope that it evolves to better protect players in the near future.

It is definitely good for players if they are interested in such things.

Of course, if the GCB does not have a complaint system developed, I believe that it will be added over time and players will have the opportunity to contact this regulator. In the meantime, I would probably be more cautious and hope that it won't take too long, because it can probably cause more problems than good.

I'm glad someone will keep an eye on it then. If there is something new, you can share. 🙂
